It’s only this fine show that has kept us afloat while we wait for Mad Men to return for another season (which seems to have stretched ridiculously long now between seasons). Downton Abbey isn’t to be missed, if only for the Dame Maggie Smith’s delicious quips and the superb decorative details throughout (some of the colour combinations of costuming with interior colours are the best this side of a Christopher Doyle shot film). It’s a literary aesthete’s dream show. Masterpiece theatre, indeed!
Two of my favourite details: the servants coiled bells and the tiered pot rack inbetween the kitchen and scullery.
