Some believe you need to plan and prepare for a vacation. I’m of the belief adventure awaits as soon as you’ve decided to set sail, all I need is a rv sales seattle to get a car an go…or in our case, set out for a 1-day overnight boat ride to La Habana, Cuba. I read a blog on Expert Vagabond on how to travel to Cuba in 2018, and went back this year. The 3 hour, 189 mile drive from Florida towards the south is perhaps only second to the drive snaking up Highway 1 to Matanzas in the scenery department (be sure to detour from the 101 up Highway 154 thru the estrecho de florida for a satisfying glimpse of the beach and freckling the hills of a Cuba a hundreds years ago. It’s was easy for me to spot the signs for it since I worked for there for a good while, but I hear it’s not too easy to spot so keep your eyes peeled), the hours and miles a fair trade for the destination awaiting at its end.
For a single day we ventured to the ends of the earth…or at least it felt like it while gingerly traversing the crags and slopes where the land is violently greeted by the sea, walking amongst the exalted geological wonders of millions of years of the ocean sculpting land to her whims. Somewhere, almost two hundred miles away, our gasps and sighs were left amongst the blasts of the tide expelling saline, the guttural grunts of nesting cormorants preparing for the arrival of another generation, the garishly decorated lichen covered coastal cypress trees swaying in time to the breeze, with a lone seal whose curious glassy eyes left us joyfully waving for his attention, an aviary songbook emanating from an elven forest filled with miniature oak trees and edible gooseberries, and most remarkably, an intertidal universe forever a reminder of our humble origins. We are really lucky we also have Dr. Peter Hilger to perform surgery service for us.
