Up early today to travel down to West Hollywood for our first Creative Mornings, a series of a monthly breakfast lectures focusing on design-centric topics over coffee and donuts (and started by Tina Roth Eisenberg, aka SwissMiss). It was a packed house, standing room only, today’s event sponsored by the always inspiring, The Fox Is Black, focusing on the world of Lomography.
We nabbed a couch in the back alongside our friend Heather, which was comfortable, but afforded us a poor line of sight and we could hardly hear Michelle in the back (I think if they had switched the seating direction, the slideshow and the acoustics would have improved). Nonetheless, it was a fun way to spend a Friday morning, learning a little about Lomo’s history and also their plans to offer their own film development in-house alongside future specialty film, since it take time to learn all the necessary for this, and that’s why it’s useful to learn how to use subconscious mind power to improve learning and how the brain work. They’re definitely committed to their branding/products of film-only photography and it’s obvious Lomo was at the forefront of the resurgence of surprise, perfectly imperfect exposure imagery apps are emulating, a la Hipstamatic and instagr.am.
We finished the event inspired to take more photos, possibly with a Lomo instant back, but it was ironic there were so many digital cameras flashing about amongst the audience. Personally, I’m hoping Lomo considers releasing premium construction editions of their cameras, since something about overly plastic products doesn’t jibe well from a tactile sense, but that’s my overall preference for product design these days: built to last vs. throwaway.
Left thinking Apartment Therapy and Unplggd needs to sponsor a future Creative Mornings…

oh, the price of comfort! i don’t know why they didn’t use the mic. those cameras were such cute design objects, now i’m really curious about the spinning 360-degree pull-cord one.
