El Mac’s “Sleep Paralysis” for Joshua Liner Gallery group show is a stunner. If I had an excess of the $12k price, I might be inclined to be the new owner of this latest piece, a sensuous-moody invitation hinting of either tragic heartache or fulfilled ecstasy, depending on your perspective. Have you seen the mural pieces he’s been leaving across the globe while visiting locations such as Oahu, Dublin, Singapore, Berlin and Vietnam? His murals are some of my favourite pieces of public art here in Los Angeles. My hopes is to one day be fortunate to nab either one his limited prints or an actual painting.
But for now, just being able to drive by and admire one his murals capturing the spirit of everyday people here in LA is enough. I’m especially in love with the image of Dianne, the chica bonita with the hoody and manicured eyebrows gracing the wall in Thai Town, at Hollywood & Wilton…she embodies the beauty of my hometown.
